Weird #*&%ing Spam

October 25th, 2010

In my WordPress Dashboard, in the list of recent comments, it lists a comment that is obviously spam but, strangely, the comment does not exist. I can go to the post that it’s supposed to be on and it’s not there. I go to the master list of comments to delete it (which is what [...]

Random Thoughts

October 8th, 2010

When people put me on hold and force me to listen to their music I should be able to force them to listen to my music. That’s only fair, right? Ever notice that the laundry rooms you see in detergent and fabric softener commercials are always white, neat, perfectly spotless, and as big as the [...]

Who the Hell is Alicia Keys

September 9th, 2010

The REAL Stuff White People Like is actually about what different ethnic groups like. We selected 526,000 OkCupid users at random and divided them into groups by their (self-stated) race. We then took all these people’s profile essays (280 million words in total!) and isolated the words and phrases that made each racial group’s essays [...]

No More “Blowhards”

July 29th, 2010

There are some things, even on the Internet, that you just sort of feel will last forever. 2 Blowhards was one of those things but they have announced that they are shutting down. I used to read 2 Blowhards almost every day but in the last few years I’ve haven’t read it very much and [...]

It’s Alive!

July 20th, 2010

News Flash: Blogging is not dead. We knew that already, didn’t we? Blogging is for when we have more to say than what will fit in Twitter’s 140 character limit. Blogging also gives you more of a feeling of “home”. This is my place; I can decorate it however I like and make my own [...]

Random Linkage

Awkward Family Pet Photos – Not necessarily awkward; some odd, some funny (via) One wheel short Stuck – The British accents make it even funnier because we normally expect this sort of thing from people in a certain region of the U.S. The People vs. George Lucas – film maker charged with crimes against the [...]

Not For Quilters

June 15th, 2010

Saturday I searched for supplex nylon fabric and I hit the outdoor fabric jackpot: Rockywoods.com. They have the fabric I was looking for, in lots of colors and even prints, plus a lot more – many different kinds and weights of nylon fabric, cotton canvas, neoprene, kevlar and dozens of different camouflage fabrics. I am [...]

A Place for Trolls

June 9th, 2010

This looks like fun. It’s a new blog devoted to making fun of trolls. It should be popular too because nearly everyone has been plagued by trolls. Fortunately, due to my lack of popularity, I don’t get any real trolls, just the occasional borderline trollish comment. But if I ever do get one I’m sending [...]

The Right Rhythm

There are dirty jokes and there are cute jokes. But once in a while you come across a cute dirty joke.

Link Bait

April 8th, 2010

Linkbait Generator – Oh yeah! I need this. Great ideas for blog posts that are sure to go viral if I ever write them. Just keep clicking the Generate button and it gives you potential blog titles such as: 10 ways that civilization could collapse because of hot women who are incredibly stupid 6 Shockingly [...]

A Note About Comment Spam

March 26th, 2010

I’ve been getting quite a bit of shoe spam lately. Not enough that it’s a huge burden to delete it all every day but it is very annoying. How dare they! So from now on (at least for a while) comments containing any of several popular athletic shoe brand names will be held for moderation.

Scenes From Our Pre-Apocalyptic Future – This is worth printing out and stashing somewhere safe so we can bring it out again occasionally and see if any of these predictions come true. 2012 looks pretty good and entirely plausible. Some of the others are a little out there but who can tell about the distant [...]

Modern Spelling

March 3rd, 2010

Brian complains: I wish my bloody spellchecker (OpenOffice.org Writer) would stop changing iPhone to Iphone, iPad to Ipad, etc. Normally I can ignore this interfering thing, but this is annoying. You’d think it would know things like that. Indeed! At least Firefox’s spellchecker just shows you what it thinks is spelled wrong and lets you [...]

Cliché Fail

Heard on a commercial for NBC’s prime time coverage of the Winter Olympics: “a perfect storm of stars and skis”

Buzz Buzz

February 15th, 2010

Okay so maybe I do not want to try Google Buzz after all. Some of the comments are revealing too. Buzz tells the whole world who you’ve been emailing? That’s crazy! What kind of moron came up with that idea? I wonder what the general reaction will be. It often surprises me what some people [...]

Buzz

February 11th, 2010

I just found out about Google Buzz. I’m interested. Not sure why. It took me forever to finally sign up with Twitter and I’m still resisting Facebook. Now something new comes along and I’m right on it for once. Maybe it’s because it’s Google. Also, I would like to sign up using my favorite username [...]

Okie Blogs

February 9th, 2010

It’s that time again – time for the Okie Blog Awards. I’m not on the list of course, which is fine. If I was on it I would get my hopes up that I might win and then I wouldn’t and would get bummed out about being so unpopular. I strongly suspect that most people [...]

The Saints and The Colts!

January 25th, 2010

I am ridiculously happy about the outcome of yesterday’s football games. I have been hoping for a Colts-Saints Superbowl all season and my wish actually came true! I can’t believe it. I’m still waiting to wake up. The Saints-Vikings game was a real edge-of-your-seat affair. For a while I was worried that the Vikings were [...]

Tree Fail

January 14th, 2010

How NOT to Cut Down a Tree – 10 videos of tree disasters. My husband has cut down several trees on our place and never had a disaster but every time I’m always sure something like this (or worse) is going to happen.

At the Movies

December 7th, 2009

Thursday evening we went and saw The Blind Side. This is a great movie. If you like football, of course you will want to see it but I would recommend this even to people who don’t care anything about football. If you can only talk your wife or girlfriend into seeing one football movie in [...]

Colorless

December 4th, 2009

The top four most popular car colors are silver, black, white, and gray. That makes me feel a little bit sad for the world. Are people’s tastes really that dull or is it just that those are the colors most available or best priced? We bought two white vehicles in a row and our latest [...]
