Violins and Starships

Follow-up to my earlier post. I love this little scene in the Old House. There are stronger hints that Barnabas is a vampire. (Talking about the sunrise.)

The boy flubs a line (at about 5:39) and that reminded me that this show was originally broadcast live,* like most soap operas were then. And the music is awesome. Isn’t that the quintessential spooky music?

Darn it. Now I want to get the complete DVD set of Dark Shadows.

* UPDATE: Oops. Not quite live. Correction in the comments. Thanks Brent.

    Technically Dark Shadows wasn\’t shown live. It was taped, but so close to air time that edits to fix flubs were almost impossible. This was way before digital editing, so video tape had to be manually spliced, which was costly and time-consuming. In rare cases, flubs were corrected.     Sorry–my last post was cut off. I meant to end with: I remember reading that Joan Bennett once said “Hollywood” instead of “Collinwood” and they edited that!
