I need to stop buying groceries and pharmacy items at the same time. The total is too scary that way. I had to buy both Zanfel (poison ivy remedy) and Zyrtec (antihistamine, 45 tablets) today. The generic version of Zyrtec is over $18 and Zanfel is over $35! WTF?! Do they charge extra because their names begin with the last letter of the alphabet? I’d hate to see what they would charge for a really exotic letter like Q.
Anyway, that stuff better frikkin’ work! Actually, I think Zyrtec might be less expensive than Claritin. I’ve been buying Claritin in packages of 10 or 20. I buy it for my other half. It doesn’t work for me and it keeps me awake at night. I don’t have much hope for Zyrtec doing what it’s supposed to either. I hate 24 hour allergy medications. If they don’t work you have to wait a whole day to take something else. Or do you? I always wait but I know a lot of people aren’t as careful with OTC drugs.
I’ve never had a problem with poison ivy myself. I don’t know if I’ve just never gotten into any or if I’m immune. I do sympathize though. If I had a really bad itch that wouldn’t quit I’d probably pay a lot to make it stop. But I can’t help but wonder if the makers of Zanfel are cashing in on that. I can’t see one ounce of anything actually costing that much to make even assuming a 100% markup. I’m guessing they have something closer to a 1,000% markup.
Okay, there I go with the conspiracy theories, I guess but you do hear stories from reliable sources sometimes. So what do you think? How much does stuff really cost? What have you heard/read about the two items I mentioned or anything else that seems to cost a lot more than it should?
