Winter, Winter, Go Away

January 28th, 2010

Here it comes…

You know it’s not going to be good, when your Governor declares a State of Emergency more than 12 hours before the bad weather even starts!

Really? I hadn’t heard that. Out there in the northwest corner of Oklahoma they’re already getting the frozen stuff and it’s apparently headed our way. I’ve been trying very hard to hold it off with my mind and so far it’s working. Right now it’s cold and mostly cloudy with not a trace of rain, sleet or snow. And the governor having declared a state of emergency gives us reason to be hopeful. Would Nature pass up such a perfect opportunity to make a governor look foolish?

Everyone in Oklahoma who isn’t already getting precipitation, think warm, sunny thoughts. Think hard. Come on. Together we can do this.

UPDATE: CGHill: “I’m starting to hear the pitter-patter of little sleet.” Hah! Me too. Just started a few minutes before 4:00pm.

The weather people are just so *positive* about this aren’t they? I’ve never seen a 100% chance of anything. No ice, snow, sleet or even rain here, though.

LOL good luck with that ‘thinking’ plan Lynn, personally I was wishing for a 4 day w/end and looks like my wishing outdid you!

  3. Lynn

You are so lucky and talented. :-) Since we’re on opposite sides of the state maybe we’ll both get our wish. They’re predicting ice here and I worry about my guys having to drive on it.

It’s not freezing here but it is ugly, drab, and cold.

I hate to say it but I’m almost hoping for a “snow day” tomorrow.

I was out in it about an hour and a half ago. Temperature 28, roads still merely wet.

I’m starting to hear the pitter-patter of little sleet.

We are all going to die!

“Next on Eyewitness News at 11 – live team coverage from our Storm Center on the two inches of snow that have paralyzed the Tri-State Region* and brought traffic to a halt!
And in other news, we’ll have an update on this morning’s outbreak of worldwide thermonuclear war.”

    * = almost all local news broadcasts refer to the Tri-State Region, even if the station is hundreds of miles from the nearest state line.

Came home in rain (not freezing). I did not know water could be that cold and not be frozen. Ugh. I like rain but this feels like an insult.

That’s the truth, Peter. Our local Fox affiliate preempted all regular programing to broadcast non-stop weather so we missed Fringe, dammit.

What we’re getting is not just snow; it’s freezing rain and sleet, with snow in some areas. It’s much, much worse than snow. We get a coating of ice all over everything. It not only makes the roads very slick but it weighs down power lines and snaps tree limbs and sometimes whole trees. In Dec. 2007 our power was off for 10 days because of an ice storm. (By the way, we no longer have a waterbed.) But I still think preempting regular TV programming for hour after hour of non-stop weather is beyond ridiculous.

Fortunately this isn’t supposed to be as bad as The Big Ice Storm of ’07.

I feel that I owe Travis Meyer a kick in the balls. It rained. All over Tulsa. There are puddles everywhere, but very very little ice. Which is nice, of course, since without too much ice, I am able to fire up the computer and complain about inaccurate weather reports.

Wow, really? We definitely have ice here and we’re supposed to get more today.
