We had an earthquake in Oklahoma this morning. The epicenter was near Norman but I actually felt it here in NE OK. There wasn’t any shaking; I just felt something – I don’t know how to describe it exactly – and then the stainless steel kitchen utensils that I have hanging on the wall kept jingling for fifteen seconds or longer. I wasn’t sure what it was until I looked up the news but I immediately thought, “Was that an earthquake? Nah, couldn’t be.”

I was in class, intent on showing students how to calculate a pooled variance, and I totally missed it. And now people think it’s strange I didn’t feel anything.
Of course our campus-alert system went nuts; they sent out messages everywhere saying there had been an earthquake but campus was still open.
I will observe that the notice that first went out said that the “Epic Center” was near OKC. I tried to make a joke off of that in class (the notice popped up on screen) but apparently no one in there was in the “EPIC X” meme.

The wife slept right through it. I wasn’t so lucky. Anything making the whole house shake has me on my feet and fully awake in 2 seconds.
