Victorian Dreams

January 12th, 2011

I’ve been daydreaming about big beautiful Victorian houses again and I got this idea, or I should say “dream”, which I’ll tell you more about in a minute, so I did an image search on tiny Victorian houses and it came up with a lot of pictures of Victorian houses that are mostly not tiny but awesome and I followed some of them to their original websites and found interesting sites that are not entirely about houses so I thought I’d share because that’s what blogging’s all about.

This old run down house reminds me a little of that old house that I used to live in, just because of the general shape. It came from Ben’s Black Belt Bisit where there are a lot of other great photos, some of houses and many of other things. (I must read that whole thing sometime.) There’s a picture of the entire house which reveals that it’s actually much bigger than my old house and not much like it at all.

One of the few actual tiny houses came up several times, including on this list of Eight Tiny Spaces You’ll Want. Sorry, no, I want a big space not a tiny one and most of those don’t even appeal to me all that much but the one already linked and the one in the second pic are kinda cute.

I love this dollhouse but I want a full size version. It’s from Halloween Addict.

I love this house including the colors. There are a lot of white painted Victorians in the south but that’s not authentic. Victorians were originally painted in multiple colors to accent the details. There are before and after restoration photos and an old 1912 photo.

Here’s another tiny house, more rustic than Victorian, on the tiny house blog, which I must look at some more later.

One more (for now): I love the porches on this house

So now, about that idea I had. I want a sewing retreat – a little Victorian house, about 12′X16′ or maybe 16′x16′ – where I can have plenty of room to quilt and sew in cute and luxurious surroundings away from all the guy stuff. I haven’t settled on all the details; I’m going to have to think about it some more. I know it will at least have to have a bay window and of course all the fancy “gingerbread” all over. Of course this is not going to happen any sooner than I’m going get a 7000 square foot dream house but hey… never stop dreaming, I always say.

UPDATE: By the way, this is the picture I have on my desktop right now. It’s a Christmas scene so I should change it soon but I really like it a lot and it’s hard to let go.

UPDATE II: Oops. Forgot one that I had bookmarked earlier. Victorian houses at We Heart It. Some very beautiful ones there.

Not much into the Victorian decorating but I do love the look of the gingerbread houses. Have wanted one for awhile to have a tea room in. :)

The house at the Halloween link is awesome!
