As I think I said once before, procrastination has always served me well. I was talking about these a while back. I had just about decided to wait until Wal-mart comes out with their cheap Birkenstock knock-offs, as they do every spring, and buy a pair of those. I know… “eeewww Wal-mart” and “eeewww knock-off” but I had a pair before, a long time ago and they were comfortable and lasted for years. Anyway, even though I had just about decided I kept looking and thinking about these and, oh what luck, I found them on sale for half price. They were only available in a few colors at this price. There was one neutral, a “cream” color, but I resisted my usual instinct to buy neutral shoes because they “go with everything”. I’m glad I did. I like this color and it’s not a raging purple so I think I can wear them with a lot of different things. (Or be deliberately outrageous and wear them with things that don’t go.)

Now I know someone probably remembers that at one time or another I said that one should not wear socks with sandals but I also said that it’s okay if the sandals are casual and the socks are the kind that are meant to be shown off – novelty or any kind of print or colorful socks. Besides, how can I be a fashion rebel if there are no fashion rules to break, so I defend and perpetuate the rule and break it at the same time. I think the “no socks with sandals” taboo probably came about because of guys wearing grubby athletic socks with sandals, which is gross, guys. Just stop that. But in spite of my bold talk about fashion rebellion I probably won’t ever go out in public like this. Or maybe I will. Who knows? I’m worry about getting the socks dirty if I wear them outside any farther than the back porch though.

Anway… about the sandals. They’re lightweight and comfortable. I like the Velcro adjustments so I can make them fit perfectly with any thickness of sock. My only complaint is that there’s a little ridge which is supposed to go under the space between the big toe and the one next to it but instead it is right underneath my big toe. I think it might bother me more when I wear them without any socks but right now it’s not a big deal. I’m tempted to try some shoe surgery though and shave down the ridge.

I’m not the only one who got something new. Shoes, of course, come in a box and this made someone very happy.

She claimed it immediately and spent much of the evening in it. She spent a lot of time turning around and trying to get comfortable because she barely fits in it but she loves the box. The other two came to check it out and Three (a pic from last year) sat in it for a little bit but they were only briefly interested in it. Box kitty is asleep in front of the woodburning stove right now so I might take the opportunity to sneak the box out of the house.

I think I am done buying shoes for a while. I feel like I’ve been buying a lot of shoes in the past year even though it’s probably not a lot compared to what is considered the “typical” womanly shoe shopping habits. But I usually buy shoes based on need more than want and I finally have all the shoes I will need for probably several years. I now have shoes that go with all the different situations and kinds of attire – slacks, casual dresses, dressier clothes, knocking around the house when it’s cold, knocking around the house when it’s warm, etc. But of course, as a woman, I reserve the right to change my mind about that.
