(I thought “Miscellaneous Musings” would sound catchier than “Pointless Rambling”.)

I guess it probably seems like I’ve been complaining a lot about the snow and cold weather but, in spite of the inconvenience, it actually makes me happy. Yes, I am glad we got a total of over two feet of snow; I’m even glad it was -21°F yesterday morning. This weather has been very entertaining to me. I’m happy that I got to see a record breaking snowfall. Of course, I’m sorry for those people for whom this weather has been a serious hardship or even tragic but, personally, I have been enjoying it. And since I can’t do anything about it it’s really best to just enjoy it. I will, of course, also be happy next week when it’s 72°F.

That’s another thing that makes me happy: Oklahoma weather. Well, except for the thunderstorms and tornadoes. I like the changeableness* of it. That it can be -21° and then 50° three days later. I like that. It’s nice to get a break now and then in the middle of winter. Unfortunately we rarely get breaks from the summer heat but that’s okay. I look forward to summer anyway.

Overall, I have to say that I like Oklahoma in general. There’s a lot that I don’t like about it and I do complain about those things now and then but in every state I’ve ever lived in (six in all) there has been something about it that I didn’t like, most often something about the state government. But the government is not the state itself just like the federal government is not America.

There are a lot of people in Oklahoma that I don’t like and that creep me out a little bit but those people are just a vague, faceless large block of strangers – those people who always vote Republican no matter what and who believe a lot of strange things and like really annoying music and don’t know how to dress to go out in public, but almost everyone I’ve met here has been nice – friendly, pleasant and at least fairly intelligent. Most people, wherever you go, are like that if you get to know them or even just talk to them for a few minutes. Just don’t talk about politics or religion.

Yesterday I found this interesting site about Weather in Antarctica. It was a bit of an exaggeration to say that it was colder here than at the South Pole but parts of Oklahoma were definitely colder yesterday morning than parts of Antarctica. And it is really fun to be able to say that. Just imagine saying to the kids in a few years, “Why this is nothing! Back in 2011 it actually got colder than Antarctica.” And unlike my generation, instead of just assuming the old folks are exaggerating they’ll be able to look it up on the Internet. Anyway, there’s a lot of other information there about Antarctica besides just the temperatures. I might like to go to Antarctica if I could just stay for an hour or two (maybe a whole day) and then leave.

I’ve been really slacking off on sewing and quilting lately. It’s partly because I’m more in the mood for just gazing out the window and being amazed and partly because I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately. I’m trying to finish the book I’m reading before this weekend so my son can borrow it but I don’t know if I’m going to be able to or not. Maybe if I did nothing else at all today.

I came across the most delightful word a couple of days ago: horripilation. Now isn’t that more fun to say than “goosebumps”? And what will be even more fun are the looks you’ll get when you say it so I must try to remember to use it sometime.

It’s Friday so I would normally be going to the grocery store in a little while but my husband had to take the snow car to work so I’ll have to go Saturday morning. So I’ve got one more day to just read, sew and gaze out the window and be amazed. (hmmmm… probably should do a little house cleaning too)
