I don’t think there has been any significant improvement in plumbing technology since the Roman Empire. Oh sure, we’ve invented a few fancy new gadgets to attach to the ends of pipes (toilets, dishwashers, etc.) and we’ve stopped using lead pipes but the actual plumbing hasn’t really changed all that much.
What? It’s Wednesday already? Seriously? Wednesday?!
When you get something new, are you ever reluctant to use it for its intended purpose? Like when you get a new carpet you don’t want anyone to walk on it? It seems like new things should just be looked at and admired.
It’s going to snow soon. I finally put away the pair of winter boots that had been sitting near the back door for three months. So it’s going to snow soon.
They should teach kids quilting as part of geometry class.
I found Mahjongg for Android a few days ago. Now how am I supposed to get anything done?
40° in the morning, 85° in the afternoon. Ah, springtime in Oklahoma.
The “4″ key on the top row of my keyboard still doesn’t work but the one on the keypad does. I knew they put those keys there for some reason.
I need to think of something to write for the blog. Come on inspiration…
Why does the word “inspiration” look like it’s spelled wrong?

“They should teach kids quilting as part of geometry class. ”
I knew a teacher who did. Well, actually, it was a fifth grade math class, but similar concept.
A sidenote: I know the “eight times” table far, far better now than I ever did as a kid because of knitting socks and because so many fancy-stitch patterns are in multiples of 8.

I hear ya on the temps. I have a plant that really, really wants to be outside, but I have to bring it in every evening and can’t put it out when I leave early in the morning because although it’s mid 70s in the day, it’s 40s in the evening. Sigh. Ah well, soon enough we’ll be complaining about 100 degree temps.
It wouldn’t be the weather if we were satisfied with it.

Well, internal human plumbing hasn’t changed much, so…
That said, I’m going to try the “Sharkbite” connector system on my house, it might save a lot of soldering and threading of pipe.

There hasn’t been any improvement in plumbing technology since the Roman Empire? Really?
Lets just talk about the sewage end of it for a second. There weren’t pumping/grinding stations in ancient Rome. They are what lets us have 24″ sewer mains instead of big eight foot tunnels. Another fun fact, toilets in houses in the US are typically connected to plumbing, while most toilets in Rome were not. We have vastly superior wastewater treatment facilities, instead of just dumping it into the nearest river. Almost all of this runs automatically, with the magic of the PLC.
And on the clean water side of things, we have lead free solder, Polyvinyl Chloride pipes, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene pipes, reverse osmosis filtering systems, pumping stations and water towers that can supply water to people hundreds of miles away, and even better yet, the staggering ability to bury all the pipes underground, *and then pinpoint where they are, years later.*
Silly aqueduct.

Well, it was just a random thought that I had a few days ago when we had a leak that was very difficult to fix.

And that’s another relatively new thing in plumbing – the ability to easily fix leaks. With things like rubber seals, steel hose clamps, the ability to solder without the use of a forge, and Methyl Ethyl Ketone for solvent-welding plastic pipes, a drip isn’t something that requires new pipes to be made from scratch.
Ok ok I’ll stop now.
