“A Man’s Drink”

October 10th, 2011

Dr. Pepper’s new low calorie soda, Dr. Pepper Ten will have a “No Women Allowed” advertising campaign. It seems to me that this is a “can’t lose” marketing strategy. The only women seriously offended will be those in the Perpetually Pissed Off At Men Brigade. The rest of us will either roll our eyes at the silliness of it all or be enticed to try it because we’re told it’s for men only.

Even aside from the advertising, it sounds like something I want to try. And Coke Zero was supposed to be a “man’s soda”? I had no idea. It’s my current favorite.

Remember the McDonald’s ad campaign for that sandwich that was supposedly “Just for Adults”?

I don’t remember that one specifically but I’ve seen a number of products advertised as “not for kids” including candy.

Well, it’s got a whole ten calories. Women are SUPPOSED to only consume zero calorie drinks. Therefore: it’s not for women.

It’s kind of like the ad for the artificially-flavored, artificially-sweetened fat-free yogurt that implies THIS IS THE ONLY “DESSERT” YOU CAN EVER EAT AGAIN ADULT WOMEN!
