I guess you can consider this a follow-up to my earlier post about 10 things every woman should have in her wardrobe. It’s 10 Shoes Every Woman Should Own. Uh… shouldn’t that be pairs of shoes?
This time I’m not going to list and make fun of each item individually. As you’ve no doubt already guessed, most of these shoes I do not own and would not own. I wouldn’t mind having a pair of black knee high boots if the heels weren’t too high. Ballet flats I’ve already mentioned. I would buy a pair if I could ever find any that fit properly. I do have a pair of canvas sneakers. Not like those boy shoes pictured though.
Wood platform sandals are really cute but I’m all about comfort and a little afraid of doing a face plant if I wear anything with a heel over two inches. I have a pair of wood platform shoes that I haven’t worn in years. I tried them on in the store, which was carpeted and I could walk in them just fine so I bought them and wore them out of the store and immediately realized I had made a terrible mistake. I cannot walk in them on a hard surface.
Metallic sandals, suede booties… nah! Black pumps… yes, if they are low heeled. Flat leather sandals. I actually do need a pair, “need” being a relative term. I have an old pair that I got tired of because they’re heavy and clunky. I have been seriously lusting for these for several months but they’re a little too spendy for sandals. To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of sandals. I have a pair of ugly, comfortable sandals that I wear around the house but I don’t like wearing sandals outside because I always scoop up dirt in them and I can’t stand the feel of grit under my feet.
“Gorgeous work-of-art shoes that make you happy.” I don’t know about art but these shoes make me happy. I have had them for… a year? Two?… and probably wear them more than any of my other shoes.
It seems to me that there are a couple of must-haves missing from the list: Walking or running shoes. Come on, ladies, surely you do something to keep those gorgeous legs in shape. You must have proper, good quality athletic shoes. Insulated, water-proof winter boots. Those of you living in warm, fashionable places like L.A. can probably live without these but they are definite must-haves for those of us who experience cold, wet nasty weather every year.

Of the 10 I have only the canvas sneakers. I’m obviously built for comfort not fashion.

I see no “field boots” listed there. Obviously the women this article aimed at are in a very different line of work from me.
Field boots may not be FUN shoes, but if you’re going to sample a forest that has rattlesnakes in it, you’re really glad to have them.

Yeah. The only problem I have with the list (or the clothes list) is the “every woman should” part. Not every woman lives in the big city, works in an office, enjoys the “night life” and weighs 110 pounds. No statement that contains the words “every woman” (or “every” anyone else) can ever be true.
