We’ve been on a short vacation to the Mall of America. Originally, I was planning on taking a whole week but for a couple of different reasons we only had three days but we decided to go anyway. I have pictures but I haven’t uploaded them yet.
First of all, the Mall of America really is huge. It has a total of four levels but the top floor is all movie theaters, so three levels of mall. Each of those three levels is as big as four average size shopping malls and there is an amusement park in the center of it all. However, otherwise it is like any other mall: 90 percent of the stores are full of nothing but ugly clothes and everything is over-priced.
Malls used to have a lot of interesting and fun stores. My mom and I used to love to spend a whole day at a mall but it seems like malls have changed. They have been taken over by The Gap and Abercrombie and Fitch and the like. I suppose those are the only kinds of stores that can afford to locate in a mall.
But anyway… One day is not enough time for the Mall of America and we didn’t even get to spend a whole day there, just an afternoon, but we did manage to walk around the whole thing because the husband walks extremely fast. We even stopped and looked in a few stores. We bought some interesting hot sauces from The Pepper Palace and some socks from Sox Appeal. (I didn’t even notice the name of that store until I got home then I saw the name on the bag.) I sort of wish I had bought more socks there because they had a lot of colorful and interesting pairs but I only bought the first pair that caught my eye and some baby socks.
There was a huge food court but we didn’t get to eat a meal in the mall. We did stop for an ice cream break. There were a couple of interesting ice cream places I wanted to go to but the husband wanted to go to Dairy Queen. That was okay. We don’t have a Dairy Queen here so it’s not like we go to one all the time.
Stay tuned for pictures and more comments about the trip later.
