Our New Young Overlord

June 27th, 2008

Actually that should be Overlady.

I wasn’t expecting to get her until at least next week when I will be seeing the person I got her from anyway but she called me last night and I brought the little one home this morning. She’s very quiet and affectionate. I haven’t made a final decision on a name yet. Here’s another pic just to show off how beautiful she is.

She seems so tiny and fragile. I’m just about as nervous and worried as a new parent.

UPDATE: It’s official. Her name is Dax. She had her first visit to the vet today and she was very good.

UPDATE II: More about Dax. And thanks for the link.

Is she a tortoiseshell? She looks a little bit like a tortoiseshell. (Which I like for reasons totally unrelated to cat-dom or aesthetics – the genetic inheritance of the coloring is kind of cool, and because it’s X-chromosome linked, only shows up in females [and a few chromosomally abnormal males]).

Yes, and she has some faint tabby markings, sort of like she was supposed to be a tabby but the stripes got lost in all the different colors.

careful… that one would fit in my pocket. Keep an eye on her. I may be tempted to pilfer the kitty.

a name suggestion: Venus. Maybe Aphrodite, but that’s a bit long for a cat.

Ya know, with pics like these, you’re supposed to put them in the extended entry with a “CUTE ALERT!” warning :-)

Anyway, the good thing about cats is that you can delay naming them for a few days while a personality asserts itself enough for the correct name to become apparent.

It takes them months to learn their names, so a few days of “hey you” won’t hurt.

We have decided that she definitely must have a Star Trek name because our two longest lived cats so far have had Star Trek names. (not that I’m superstitious) Before we got her we were thinking about Q but she seems too sweet to be a Q. Now I’m thinking about naming her Dax just because it’s a nice simple name (and a ST character) so unless I think of something else in the next day or two it’s going to be Dax.

    How about Troi?

On Star Trek, Troi was a pretty female…and the cat is a pretty female.

  8. Hippie

yuk… not troi… anything but troi… Please don’t name this wonderful cat after Miss Psychobabble. Dax works better.

    Which begs the question:

Lela, Tobin, Emony, Audrid, Torias, Joran, Curzon, Jadzia, or Ezri? :-)

  10. Lynn

Well, you know they say cats have nine lives. :-)

(Please tell me you had to look up those names.)
