“Racists” For Obama

October 23rd, 2008

One of the most amusing things to come up in this presidential campaign is the surprise over “racists” supporting Obama. (another article)

Listen all you prissy, pin-headed, granola munching, patchouli sniffing, blue state pinkos, we’ve been telling you for years that just because someone has a rebel flag in the back window of his pickup that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s a racist. But you don’t get it and even when you discover that some of these people you’ve labeled “racist” have Obama signs in their front yards you still don’t get it. You act like you’ve discovered something that violates some basic law of the universe – like water flowing uphill. Just get over yourselves. The real world does not look much like your fantasy world.

I don’t own a rebel flag or a lawn jockey myself although I’ve always sort of liked lawn jockeys purely for their decorative quality. Does that make me racist? I have mixed feelings about such things. I can see how those items could be offensive to some people but I also know that many of the people who display them are not racists – at least not hard core racists. Maybe some of their attitudes are behind the times but not so far behind that they would have a problem voting for an intelligent, well educated black man whose campaign promises sound better to them than the other guy’s. I don’t see why that’s so hard to understand or why it’s even interesting enough to bother writing about.

in my bleaker moods I wonder if sometime soon we’re going to have a “coasts vs. interior” civil war…

I doubt it will ever be a real war. One side is anti-war and the other side has all the guns. :-)

Well, a cold war rather than a hot war, then. (Though some days I wonder if there isn’t already a cold war of sorts on.)
